The Storyteller’s Gift — An Original Children’s Play About the Magic of Stories

Some plays are adapted from famous books. This one was created from scratch. The Storyteller’s Gift is an original Pratham Path Theatre production, written especially for our youngest performers — a warm, funny, imaginative celebration of the oldest magic in the world: a good story, well told. Here is what makes it special.

The Story

A wandering storyteller arrives carrying the greatest gift of all — a treasury of tales. As he begins to spin his stories, beloved characters spring to life on stage before the audience’s eyes. A king whose every touch turns to gold discovers what truly matters. A band of unlikely animal friends set off to find a home and a song of their own. One by one, the storyteller’s tales unfold, woven together into a single joyful celebration of imagination, kindness, and the wonder of stories.

Why an Original Play for Young Children

For children aged 5 to 8, the best theatre is episodic, colourful, and full of variety — and that is exactly what an original script lets us create. Rather than forcing little performers through one long, complex storyline, The Storyteller’s Gift is built as a series of short, vivid tales held together by the storyteller. Each child gets a clear moment to shine in a self-contained story, which suits young attention spans beautifully — both for the performers and for the children in the audience. Writing the play ourselves also means we can shape every role to fit the children in the batch, so no one is left without a meaningful part.
