More than a century after it was first written, it remains one of the most beloved tales in the world — and one of the most rewarding for young actors to bring to the stage. The Story

A young girl named Dorothy is swept far from home into a strange and magical land. To find her way back, she must follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and ask the mysterious Wizard of Oz for help. Along the way she meets three unforgettable companions — a Scarecrow who longs for brains, a Tin Man who wishes for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion in search of courage. Together they face wicked witches, flying monkeys, and many adventures, discovering along the way that the qualities they were seeking were inside them all along.

Why It Works So Well for Young Actors

The Wizard of Oz is a gift for a children’s theatre director because it is full of distinct, characterful roles. The Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion each have a clear personality, a physical way of moving, and a memorable journey — perfect for children learning to build a character. Beyond the leads, the story naturally makes room for a large ensemble: Munchkins, witches, palace guards, talking trees, flying monkeys, and the citizens of the Emerald City. This means a whole batch of children can each have a meaningful part, which is exactly how we like to stage our productions.

Our young actors aged 9 to 15 are bringing The Wizard of Oz to the stage as part of our upcoming children’s theatre showcase. Families, friends, and theatre lovers are warmly invited. Entry is complimentary, though registration is required as seating is limited.
