The Story

A vain and rather foolish king is obsessed with one thing above all else — looking magnificent. Surrounded by courtiers who flatter his every whim, he becomes the perfect target for two clever tricksters who arrive at court promising the most splendid royal attire ever created. There is just one catch: the attire does not actually exist. As the whole court pretends to admire what is plainly not there, too afraid to speak the truth, it falls to one honest, fearless voice to say what everyone can see. The result is a comedy of vanity, flattery, and the simple power of honesty.

Why We Stage Plays in Hindi

At Pratham Path Theatre, we believe children should experience theatre in both English and Hindi. Performing in their mother tongue allows many children to express emotion more freely, to play with language they use every day, and to take pride in their own cultural voice. Hindi theatre also opens the door to a rich tradition of Indian comedy and satire that English scripts simply cannot offer. For many of our young actors, a Hindi play is where they feel most fully themselves on stage.
